In July of 2008, my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. She fought a brave battle against the disease but after 15 months, she passed away at our home on Thursday morning, October 22nd. She was only 63 years old.
I miss her so much.
Her smile would light up the room and make you feel like everything was going to be ok. My mom was my Wonder Woman, my inspiration and my friend.
She taught me to walk, talk, pray, love, forgive and how to drive a stick shift in her yellow, '78 Honda Civic. One thing she did not teach me was how I was supposed to say goodbye to her; that I will have to learn on my own, one step at a time. But I believe that this is a temporary goodbye, that we will be reunited again.
My mom had two passions in her life; her children and horseback riding. When my sister and I were younger, she would take us to the horse stable every weekend. I think those were some of the happiest times in her life. She was also a proud grandmother to Sophia and Odin (2 ½ months old).
A memorial celebrating her life will be held November 7th in Pasadena. If you would like more information, please contact us for details.
If anyone is so led, donations can be made in memory of Diane Rea to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation at www.bcrfcure.org or to Grace Lutheran Church of Culver City at www.graceculver.org.
Thank you for all the kind words, cards, emails, flowers and prayers. My family is deeply touched by the kindness we have experienced during this difficult time.
"I will turn their grief into gladness. I will give them comfort and joy in place of their sorrow."
Jeremiah 31:13
